This past week on Facebook, I have enjoyed seeing photos of my friends siblings to celebrate National Siblings Day. I didn't post one on the day because my brother is a Facebook hold-out and I knew he wouldn't see it unless someone else in the family showed it to him. But today, I decided to share a tribute to David K. Aadalen, my only sibling. Growing up in Topeka, KS, I don't remember even one time when we really argued or fought. I'm sure there were some times, at least on his part, when it could have come to that. Dave was protective of his little sister and was always willing to include me in whatever he did. I was one of the only girls on our block so I hung around with my big brother and his friends. Mom built a tree house for us (yes, Mom, but that's another blog) and our "club" included the neighborhood boys and me. They let me be president. Since Dave was two years ahead of me in high school, he had the driver's license first. I always tagged along with him in his gorgeous blue Camaro. Even if one of his friends drove, I tagged along. Maybe he complained to them, but not to me. I married Dennis a couple years before Dave married Rhonda. We were all four Shawnee Heights grads. He picked a wonderful sister-in-law for me. And I love being Aunt and now Great-Aunt Jeanne Ann to his three kids and four grandkids. What a blessing they all have been, especially in the last few years. It has been so nice to have a lawyer in the family. I admit to soliciting free advice often. Dave was my rock when both our parents moved to Heaven, Dad in 1993, and Mom in 2006. He was grateful to me for taking care of Mom those last seven years of her life, but I was grateful to him for taking care of all the legal and financial details for her. He's a great lawyer and I know he's helped many people over the years. I'm quite proud to be his sister, and I just wanted you all to know. So, a belated Happy Siblings Day, Dave. I love ya, brother. (Somebody in the family show this to him please.) Comments are closed.
