Reading Nook
As a writer, it's important for me to read - especially in the area in which I am writing, which up to 2018 was upper middle-grade. After writing my second non-fiction book in 2020, my focus and direction has changed for my next book, to adult Christian speculative fiction or supernatural realism. So my reading lists are changing and I am concentrating on that genre, which happens to be one of my favorites, so it works out well. However, I always have a non-fiction book on my shelf also, usually one that will build my faith, but occasionally something historical. And my Bible always comes first.
I've been known to frequent book stores and my local library, so some of the titles listed below may be out of print. You may have to dig to find them, or ask a librarian. I want to get kids, and adults, to know the joy of holding a real book, which often means going back a few years to the classics, or what some may think is old-fashioned. I want everyone to discover this truth: Good books are timeless.
This list updates regularly, so check back often to see what I'm reading!
I thought my focus and direction had changed for my next book, but Holy Spirit (Gahlay Rahzeen, Revealer of Mysteries) had Trinity Tales of Tresia: Book IV in mind instead of my moving to adult fiction. I’m excited to enter the Realms of Tresia again! So my reading list still contains a few other genres like Christian romance and mystery, but mostly my favorite genres, Christian speculative fiction or supernatural realism.
My reading goal for 2024 was 40 books. I read 47! However, I’m keeping my 2025 goal at 40, because I will be concentrating other writing assignments as well. I will not only be reading books, but writing the fourth book in my Tresia series, as well as leading my Warriors Writing group. Mentoring these beginning writers is a labor of love. My mentors have meant so much to me over the years and it is an honor to pass along some of what I’ve learned to my Warriors!
Another part of my God-given writing assignment since my last book, Kingdom Corner Connection was published in 2020, is to buy, read, review, and encourage other authors. I have loved the experience! Several of titles you see here will be books written by my writer/author friends. Those will be marked with an *.
2024 Most Read Authors - tie
I highly recommend fiction written by two of my favorite authors. The nine books each that I read to create the tie were mostly second or even third readings, so yes, I enjoy their books!
Terry Brooks
James L. Rubart
Favorite 2024 Non-Fiction
Imagine Big by Terri Savelle Foy
Letter to the American Church by Eric Metaxes
